Rt. Hon. Kwamoti B. Laori, the distinguished representative for the Demsa/Numan/Lamurde Federal Constituency and Chairman of the House Committee on Cooperation and Integration in Africa, recently paid a pivotal visit to the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Accompanied by his committee members, Hon. Laori engaged with HE Ambassador Bianca Odumegu Ojukwu, the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs. The primary goal of this meeting was to foster an open dialogue about the committee's initiatives, identify potential areas for collaboration, and seek the Ministry's support in advancing its mandate to promote peace, unity, and cooperation among African nations for enhanced economic and social development.
The Minister warmly welcomed Hon. Laori and his delegation, expressing her readiness to collaborate closely with the committee in advancing the "4Ds" Foreign Policy thrust of the current administration, led by HE Ahmed Bola Tinubu (GCFR), President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
During the meeting, the Honorable Minister elaborated on the 4Ds—Development, Democracy, Demography, and Diaspora—highlighting these as the cornerstone principles guiding the administration's foreign policy initiatives. She underscored the Ministry's ongoing efforts to ensure peace and stability in the West African sub-region, especially in light of the recent exits of Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger from ECOWAS. The Minister also highlighted significant diplomatic strides that are yielding positive results, aiding Nigeria, the Sahel states, and the broader African continent in overcoming developmental challenges.
In addition, she expressed the Ministry's enthusiasm for partnering with various stakeholders, including parliamentary committees like the Committee on Cooperation and Integration in Africa, to drive the foreign policy objectives of the current administration and solidify Nigeria's standing in the international arena.
A notable highlight of the visit was the presentation of the Committee's strategic plan, aimed at providing the Ministry with a comprehensive understanding of the committee's areas of interest and aligning them with the Ministry's objectives for the benefit of Nigeria and its citizens.
Notable members of the Committee in attendance included Hon. Dennis Agbo, Hon. Rabiu Garba Kamba, Hon. Saba Ahmed Adamu, Hon. Akiba Bassey Ekpenyong, Hon. Paul A. Ekpo, Hon. Ojuawo Rufus Adeniyi, and Hon. Uguru Nwibo Emmanuel.
