*Rt. Hon. Kwamoti and Youth Empowerment: What Many Do Not Know*

 

When it comes to human capital development and youth empowerment, Rt. Hon. Kwamoti Bitrus Laori has demonstrated exceptional commitment through impactful and measurable initiatives.

He was the first lawmaker from Adamawa State to sponsor 103 constituents to meet the criteria for the NIRSAL/AGSMEIS loan scheme, resulting in 72 beneficiaries accessing a total of ₦206,182,990.00. Individual beneficiaries received between ₦1 million and ₦3 million to strengthen their agricultural ventures.

Rt. Hon. Kwamoti has consistently provided scholarships to underprivileged students at secondary, undergraduate, and postgraduate levels, including PhD programs, across various institutions. He has also equipped many students with laptop computers to enhance their academic performance.

In the area of skill acquisition, he has sponsored no fewer than 200 youths in diverse vocational fields such as shoemaking, tailoring, confectionery and bakery, and cosmetology. Each trainee receives startup support or financial assistance to expand existing businesses.

Over the years, he has empowered thousands of constituents through agricultural support programs, distributing water pumps, herbicides, fertilizers, grinding machines, salon kits, electric generators, and knapsack sprayers to boost productivity and livelihoods.

Rt. Hon. Kwamoti has also facilitated employment opportunities for many constituents in both the public and private sectors, including placements in the military and law enforcement services at both junior and officer cadres. 

Concerned about recurring conflicts between farmers and pastoralists, he has, over the past three years, trained more than 600 stakeholders — including traditional rulers, religious leaders, youth and women leaders, and community representatives — in conflict prevention and resolution, early warning, mediation, alternative dispute resolution, restorative justice, and peacebuilding to serve as Volunteers/ Peace Advocates in the various localities. Each participant received a ₦100,000 to support community-based peace initiatives.

To further advance skills development, he facilitated the establishment of an extension center of the Nigerian Institute of Leather and Science Technology in Numan — the second of its kind in the entire Northeast region.

Despite these achievements, Rt. Hon. Kwamoti has chosen to remain modest about his accomplishments. He believes that delivering meaningful service is a fundamental responsibility of elected office, not a platform for excessive publicity. This quiet dedication to service has earned him the reputation of a *“silent achiever* ” among his constituents.

Rt. Hon. Kwamoti Bitrus Laori, Member representing Demsa/Numan/Lamurde Federal Constituency, on behalf of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, His Excellency Rt. Hon. Dr. Tajudeen Abbas, GCON, formally inaugurated the House Ad Hoc Committee mandated to investigate and appraise the performance and benefits accruing to the Federal Government from concessionaires operating air and seaport terminals, logistics facilities, and related shipping activities from 2006 to 2025.

The inauguration followed a resolution of the House of Representatives at its Tuesday plenary sitting, consequent upon the adoption of a Matter of Urgent Public Importance. The motion expressed concerns that nearly two decades after the concessioning of port terminal operations to private operators, the anticipated improvements in port infrastructure, operational efficiency, and service delivery have not been fully realised.

It was further observed that several concessionaires have allegedly failed to meet their contractual capital investment obligations, thereby undermining efficiency, revenue assurance, transparency, and the overall development of the maritime and aviation logistics sectors.

The Committee is tasked with conducting a comprehensive review of concession agreements, assessing levels of compliance, evaluating financial and infrastructural benefits accruing to the Federal Government, and making appropriate recommendations to strengthen oversight, accountability, and policy implementation within the sector.

The Ad Hoc Committee is to be cahired by Rep. Kolawole Davidson Akinlayo (APC, Ekiti) and Rep. Harrison Anozie Nwadike (APC, Imo) as Deputy Chairman.

Amid rising security challenges linked to farmers–herders clashes, Rt. Hon. Kwamoti B. Laori has empowered 124 youths—male and female, including farmers and herders—from affected communities in Demsa/Numan/Lamurde Federal Constituency with peacebuilding skills and economic support to promote sustainable coexistence.

The Farmers–Herders Conflict Resolution and Peacebuilding Training and Empowerment Programme, organized by Rt. Hon. Kwamoti B. Laori, Member Representing Demsa/Numan/Lamurde Federal Constituency, was held at Livak Arena, Numan, from 13th to 16th January 2026, and successfully concluded on Friday, 16th January 2026. The programme was both timely and strategic, given the persistent security, socio-economic, and livelihood challenges confronting the constituency and the wider region.

Significantly, the initiative marked the fourth phase of sustained peacebuilding interventions by the lawmaker. Through these structured engagements, traditional rulers, religious leaders, youths, women, farmers, and herders have consistently been trained in Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR), conflict prevention, mediation, and peacebuilding, demonstrating a deliberate commitment to institutionalizing peace at the grassroots rather than relying on reactive responses.

The Demsa/Numan/Lamurde Federal Constituency has experienced recurring tensions driven by competition over land use, grazing routes, water resources, climate change, and demographic pressures—often escalating into violent confrontations with serious implications for lives, livelihoods, social cohesion, and food security. Against this backdrop, the integration of peacebuilding training with economic empowerment reflects a deep understanding of the structural drivers of conflict.

Participants were strategically selected from conflict-prone and affected communities, ensuring the training addressed lived realities and equipped frontline community actors with practical skills in early warning, dialogue facilitation, mediation, and non-violent conflict management.

The intensive four-day programme was facilitated by Dr. Imran Usman Sani  and Dr. Bosede Awodola of the Institute of Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR), Abuja, whose expertise enriched the sessions with nationally recognized best practices and context-sensitive peacebuilding frameworks. 

At the conclusion of the programme, all 124 participants received certificates of participation and a cash empowerment grant of One Hundred Thousand Naira (₦100,000) each to strengthen their livelihoods and reinforce their commitment to peace.

The programme attracted key dignitaries and stakeholders, underscoring its importance and credibility. 

Hon. Laori  was represented by the Chairman of Numan Local Government Area Council, Hon. Innocent Koto, other notable persons include Prof. John Ngamsa; Adviser to the Adamawa State Governor on Strategic Communication; Prof. Dishi khobe Adviser to the Adamawa State Governor on Food Agriculture and Security, Arch Zamgopwa Zidon PDP chairmanship flagbearer alongside party leaders, religious leaders, and heads of security agencies, community stakeholders.

Hon. Kwamoti Laori Urges Unity at Night of the Makers 4th Edition in Yola

 

 

The fourth edition of NIGHT OF THE MAKERS on Tuesday provided a strong platform for renewed calls for unity, peace and dialogue, as Rt. Hon. Kwamoti B. Laori, member representing Demsa/Numan/Lamurde Federal Constituency, urged Nigerians to anchor progress on shared humanity amid a rapidly changing world.

Speaking during the awards night organized by Rhamo Multi-Media Center at Bridge Wood Hotels and Apartments, Laori commended the organizers for sustaining a platform that celebrates ideas, creativity and purposeful engagement.

The event, themed “Our Humanity: Unity, Peace, and Security in the Face of a Changing World,” brought together leaders, professionals, creatives and community builders to engage in conversations on peacebuilding, social cohesion and sustainable development, while also honoring indigenous change-makers.

Laori described the theme as timely, noting that despite rapid social, political, technological and economic changes, humanity remains the enduring bond that transcends borders, cultures, religions and ideologies.

“Our humanity provides the foundation upon which unity, peace and security must be built,” he said, warning that change, no matter how innovative, could deepen division if not guided by shared values.

He emphasized that unity does not imply uniformity, but the ability to embrace diversity while upholding dignity, respect and justice. According to him, differences are often exploited to fuel fear and hostility, but genuine unity emerges when diversity is recognized as a source of strength.

Drawing from experiences in his constituency of Demsa, Numan and Lamurde, Laori recalled how violent conflicts have claimed lives, destroyed property and bred mistrust among communities that once lived peacefully together.

“These experiences remind us that peace cannot be taken for granted; it must be consciously built, protected and sustained,” he said.

While commending the Adamawa State Government’s efforts toward peace and security, Laori stressed that government action alone is insufficient. He called for constant engagement through open, honest and inclusive dialogue, noting that conversations anchored on shared humanity are critical to healing wounds, rebuilding trust and breaking cycles of violence.

“Peace goes beyond the absence of conflict; it is rooted in justice, understanding and mutual respect,” he added.

The awards night’s special guest of honour was Dr. Edgar Amos, the Chief of Staff to the Executive Governor of Adamawa State, convened by Hon. John Ngamsa, Ph.D.

Activities included a red carpet reception, panel discussions, cultural dance performances and the presentation of awards to 12 outstanding indigenous change-makers.

The highlight of the night was the conferment of the grand award on Sen. Aminu Iya Abbas, the serving senator representing Adamawa Central Senatorial District, in recognition of his leadership and service.

*Reps Condemn Killing of Women by Security Operatives in Adamawa Community, Call for Immediate Investigation*

The House of Representatives on Wednesday strongly condemned the killing of eight unarmed women during a peaceful demonstration in Lamurde Local Government Area of Adamawa State, as well as the injuring of over thirty others—some with life-threatening wounds and fractures.

At the commencement of the deliberation, the House observed a solemn minute of silence in honour of the deceased women.

The resolution of the House followed a motion of urgent public importance moved by Hon. (Barr.) Kwamoti Bitrus Laori, Chairman, House Committee on Public Petitions.

According to the motion:

> “The House notes with deep concern the ongoing violent conflicts in Lamurde Local Government Area of Adamawa State, which have resulted in loss of lives, destruction of property, and heightened tensions among communities already grappling with insecurity;

> Further notes that these disturbances are occurring at a time when the nation faces widespread insecurity from criminals, bandits, terrorists, and kidnappers—making it imperative to prevent an escalation in Lamurde;

> Disturbed by the killing of eight unarmed women, including a 13-year-old girl, by personnel of the Nigerian Military during a peaceful demonstration, and the injuring of over thirty others who are currently receiving treatment in Numan and Yola Specialist Hospitals;

> Worried that this tragic incident resembles previous occurrences in Dong, Kodomti, Lawaru, Nzuruwe, and Shaforon communities in 2017, where civilians reportedly suffered at the hands of security personnel without meaningful investigation, prosecution, or compensation—pointing to a troubling pattern of impunity.”

Hon. Laori condemned in the strongest terms the killing of unarmed civilians, describing it as inhumane, unjustifiable, and a gross violation of fundamental human rights guaranteed under the 1999 Constitution (as amended).

He emphasized that restoring public trust in security institutions requires transparency, accountability, and strict adherence to established rules of engagement. He further warned that failure to act urgently could result in deeper communal grievances, further loss of lives, and a breakdown of law and order.

Following extensive deliberations, the House:

Unequivocally condemned the extrajudicial killing of unarmed women protesters in Lamurde LGA;

Called for an immediate, transparent, and independent investigation to identify and prosecute all security personnel found culpable;

Mandated the Committees on Human Rights, Defence, and Internal Security to conduct a fact-finding mission to Lamurde LGA and report back within two weeks;

Urged the Chief of Defence Staff to direct all military personnel deployed in Lamurde and across Adamawa State to exercise maximum restraint, uphold professionalism, and strictly follow the rules of engagement.

The Committee on Legislative Compliance was also mandated to ensure full compliance with the resolutions of the House.

PRESS STATEMENT BY RT. HON. KWAMOTI B. LAORI, MEMBER REPRESENTING DEMSA/NUMAN/LAMURDE FEDERAL CONSTITUENCY, ON THE ONGOING VIOLENT CONFLICTS AND THE KILLING OF UNARMED PROTESTERS IN LAMURDE LGA

 

I strongly and unequivocally condemn the ongoing violent conflicts in Lamurde Local Government Area, which have resulted in needless loss of lives, destruction of property, and deepening tensions within our communities. 

At a time when our nation is bleeding daily in the hands of criminals, bandits, terrorists, and kidnappers, our people should not be subjected to yet another cycle of fear, grief, and instability.

I condemn, in the strongest possible terms, the reported killing of unarmed women protesters by personnel of the Nigerian Military in Lamurde LGA. The accounts relayed by my constituents are distressing, heartbreaking, and utterly unacceptable. The killing of unarmed civilians is inhumane, unjustifiable, and a gross violation of their fundamental human rights.

This tragic incident echoes the painful experiences of Dong, Kodomti, Lawaru, Nzuruwe, and Shaforon communities in 2017, where civilians suffered similar abuses at the hands of security personnel without any credible investigation, prosecution, or compensation. It is deeply troubling that, years later, our communities are once again confronted with the same pattern of violations and impunity.

I therefore call for an immediate, transparent, and independent investigation into the extrajudicial killing of unarmed civilians in Lamurde LGA. Those found culpable must be identified and held accountable in line with the laws of our country. Justice must not only be done—it must be seen to be done. Our democracy and our shared humanity demand no less.

My deepest condolences go to the families who have lost loved ones, and I pray for the full and speedy recovery of the injured currently receiving medical care. Their pain is our collective pain, and I stand with them during this difficult and sorrowful moment.

I appeal to the good people of Lamurde and neighbouring communities to remain calm and avoid any actions that could further escalate the situation. 

I also call on all security agencies deployed to the area to exercise maximum restraint, uphold the highest standards of professionalism, and strictly adhere to the rules of engagement while carrying out their duties to protect lives and restore order.

We must all—community leaders, government, security agencies, and residents—work together to ensure that peace is restored swiftly and that justice is served without delay.

UNITY SKATERS CLUB OF NIGERIA VISITS RT. HON KWAMOTI B. LA'ORI, AT THE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY:

Yesterday, being Thursday, 27th November 2025, the Unity Skaters Club of Nigeria paid a courtesy visit to Hon. Bitrus Kwamoti Laori at his office in the National Assembly, Abuja. The visit was to express gratitude for the warm support they received from the Governor of Adamawa State, H.E. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, during the 2025 Fresh Air Skating Championship, where skating was officially recognized as a grassroots sport in the state. During the meeting, the club requested Hon. Kwamoti to serve as their Patron a role he gladly accepted. He also pledged his full support as the team begins preparations for the Fresh Air Skating Championship Yola 2026.

The delegation was led by the Club Chairman, Coach Sylvester Phadion, who is currently training for two Guinness World Record attempts: Fastest Slalom on 20 Cones, Fastest Sideways Slalom on 500 Cones.

These historic attempts are scheduled to take place at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport on December 4th and 7th, 2025. Also present was Coach Yahaya Bulama, Arewa Coordinator, who presented a token of appreciation to Hon. Kwamoti in recognition of his commitment to youth empowerment and sports development. Mr. Idris Usman commended the Honorable Member for his consistent contributions to community development across Adamawa State.

In his remarks, Coach Sylvester extended gratitude to Hon. Kwamoti for his responsive leadership and reminded his Senior Legislative Aide, Mr. Dennis Ahmadu, of the earlier promise to provide a borehole to Gyakan Community, especially as the dry season approaches.

Rt. Hon. Kwamoti B. Laori, National President of the Planned Parenthood Federation of Nigeria (PPFN), has participated in the 2025 International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) General Assembly, held from 18–20 November in Bali, Indonesia.The high-level global convening brought together policymakers, parliamentarians, health experts, youth advocates, and civil society leaders from across IPPF’s worldwide network.

As the National President of PPFN—IPPF’s Member Association in Nigeria—Rt. Hon. Laori played a key leadership role at the Assembly. He addressed the global audience on behalf of the African region, highlighting the continent’s priorities, progress, unique challenges, and the urgent need for sustained investment in rights-based health services. His remarks reinforced Africa’s commitment to expanding access to quality reproductive health care, strengthening youth engagement, and advancing equity across all communities.

The Assembly focused on strengthening global cooperation around sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), reviewing IPPF’s strategic direction, and assessing progress under the ongoing “Come Together” strategy. A major highlight of the gathering was the unanimous adoption of IPPF’s first-ever Charter of Values, centered on dignity, equality, justice, community, integrity, pleasure, and resilience.

During the event, Rt. Hon. Laori joined discussions on improving access to reproductive health services, enhancing community participation, and building stronger partnerships that translate global commitments into real impact for families and young people. Laori, the National President of  Planned Parenthood Federation of Nigeria addressed global audience at the 7th International Conference on Family Planning (ICFP), 2025.

This year's ICFP is holding  between 1-6th November, 2025 in Bogotá, Colombia at the Ágora Bogotá Convention Center, where stakeholders converge to review national and global policies on family planning, sexual and reproductive health rights. 

The theme of this year's event  is “ *Equity Through Action: Advancing Sexual & Reproductive Health & Rights for All.”* 

Hon. Laori described the event as a global forum uniting advocates, implementers and researchers in sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR).

The law maker representing Demsa/Numan/Lamurde in Nigeria's parliament aplauded the contributions of global donors and partners in advancing advovacy and access to quality services in support of sexual and reproductive health in Nigeria.

Laori, who serves as the National President of PPFN used the occasion to highlight some of the notable achievements of PPFN to include sponsorship of high impact population related projects and services that to promote access to quality sexual and reproductive health service delivery in Nigeria. 

Laori highlighted the collaborative effort of PPFN with other partners to sponsor youth advocacy, population related projects and programmes that creates awareness on the rights and mitigation of sexual and gender based violence among youth population.

*Reps Committee Presents Five Reports, Promises Weekly Consideration of Public Petitions*

The House of Representatives Committee on Public Petitions, chaired by Hon. Kwamoti Bitrus La’ori, on Wednesday presented five (5) reports during plenary, reaffirming its commitment to expedite the consideration and presentation of petitions before the House.

Hon. La’ori, who had earlier presented several reports from his committee in the previous week, pledged that the Committee will henceforth consider and lay reports on petitions at least once every week while the House is in session.

Among the five reports presented was the petition by Hon. (Prof.) Paul Sunday Nnamchi, on behalf of members of the Gutenberg Print Professionals Association of Nigeria (GUPPAN), against certain groups allegedly working against the implementation of the Chartered Institute of Professional Printers of Nigeria (CIPPON) Act, 2007.

Other reports laid include:

A petition against Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (IKEDC) by the Omole Phase II Community Development Association (CDA), Lagos, over poor, erratic, and inadequate power supply in the community.

A petition by Ayia, Ayia George & Co. on behalf of Habinda Nigeria Limited against the Benue State Government and the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) for alleged trespass and land grabbing at Adaka, along Makurdi–Naka Road.

A petition by Ogehenero Okoro & Co. against Seplat Energy Plc, alleging marginalisation and wrongful naming of oil wells located in Boboroku Community, Delta State, after Orogho Community in Edo State, and the misattribution of land ownership.

A petition by Mrs. Nwosu Cynthia Chinonyerem against the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) over alleged unlawful dismissal from service.

Since assuming office as Chairman on May 13, 2025, Hon. La’ori has significantly improved the Committee’s pace of work, ensuring a steady flow of reports to the House.

A performance review of the Committee’s activities shows that since its inauguration in June 2023, a total of 15 reports were laid before the House in February 2024, with 5 of them considered in May 2024. However, under Hon. La’ori’s leadership, 20 reports have been laid between May and October 2025, with 5 already considered — a clear indication of enhanced productivity and renewed commitment.

Hon. La’ori emphasized that the Committee remains dedicated to ensuring that all petitions are treated fairly, transparently, and without unnecessary delays, in line with the House’s commitment to justice and good governance.

*Reps Direct NNPC to Pay ₦32bn to IDPs in Kwara, ExxonMobil to Compensate Akwa Ibom Host Communities ₦72bn*

The House of Representatives has directed the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) to pay the sum of ₦32.15 billion as compensation to 5,000 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Ilorin, Kwara State, for losses suffered due to unlawful demolition, displacement, and land acquisition.

Chairman of the House Committee on Public Petitions, Hon. Kwamoti Bitrus La’ori, disclosed this while briefing journalists at the National Assembly on Thursday. He explained that the resolution of the 10th House reaffirms and adopts the earlier recommendation of the 8th Assembly on the matter.

According to the report presented by La’ori, the House approved a petition filed by Ajets Surveys on behalf of the affected residents against NNPCL concerning land acquisition, demolition, and forced eviction. The affected areas include Judges’ Quarters, F Division, Tanke Tipper Garage, Pipeline, Babaode, and Oshin in Ilorin.

The resolution directed NNPCL to effect the payment within 60 days.

In a related decision, the House also adopted the Committee’s report on a petition against Mobil Producing Nigeria Unlimited (now Seplat Energy) and directed the company to pay ₦72.624 billion as compensation to victims in Ibeno Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State for environmental damage caused by oil spills linked to its operations.

The compensation, the House stated, should be paid in installments as mutually agreed by the affected parties.

The Committee’s findings were based on valuation assessments by Messrs Soni Udoma and Partners, Ebito and Company, and Uduak Jeremiah Consult, which confirmed multiple oil spills between 2003 and 2012.

Similarly, the House upheld the Committee’s recommendation on a petition by Award Winning Consult Limited on behalf of Mr. Asedere Othuke Edwin against British Oil and Gas Exploration Production Company over the alleged unlawful termination of employment. The company was ordered to pay ₦100 million as compensation and damages without further delay.

In another resolution, the House adopted the report on the petition by Tepng/Aks Main Community (MUO) on behalf of paramount rulers, youths, and women of Ikot Abasi, Ibeno, and Mbo Local Government Areas of Akwa Ibom State against TotalEnergies Nigeria Limited and the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) for their non-inclusion in the Host Community Development Trust (HCDT) as mandated by the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) 2021.

The House directed TotalEnergies and NUPRC to immediately include the affected communities as beneficiaries of the existing HCDT and to pay accrued compensation covering the period from 2022 to 2025, representing the years of exclusion.

The House also adopted the Committee’s recommendation on the petition by Mr. Dogo Isaac Imooje against the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) for wrongful dismissal from service. It directed the NIS and the Civil Defence, Fire, Immigration and Prisons Services Board (CDFIPB) to pay all outstanding salaries, entitlements, and arrears owed to the petitioner from February 2013 to September 2018.

Speaking on the series of resolutions, Hon. La’ori reaffirmed the Committee’s commitment to fairness, justice, and timely consideration of all petitions referred to it, stressing that the House remains a platform where the grievances of ordinary citizens can find redress.

> “The Committee will continue to uphold fairness, transparency, and accountability in addressing the concerns of Nigerians. Every citizen deserves justice, and this House remains committed to ensuring that justice is not delayed or denied,” he said.

La’ori commended the leadership of the 10th House of Representatives under Speaker Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen GCON for providing strong and people-centered legislative direction, describing it as “a true People’s Parliament” that gives voice to the marginalized and holds institutions accountable.

*Rep. Kwamoti Facilitates NEMA Relief for Conflict-Affected Communities in Lamurde LGA*

 

Rt. Hon. Kwamoti B. Laori, member representing Demsa/Numan/Lamurde Federal Constituency, has facilitated the distribution of relief materials to Rigange, Waduku, and Lakan communities in Lamurde LGA, recently affected by violent conflict.

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) supplied the relief items, which included rice, maize, spaghetti, vegetable oil, seasoning, tomato paste, and iodized salt.

The affected community leaders thanked Rt.Hon. Laori for securing Federal Government intervention, pledging support for peace and reconciliation.

*New PPFN President, Rt. Hon. Kwamoti B. Laori, Addresses Journalists After 58th National Council Meeting in Abuja*

The newly elected National President of the Planned Parenthood Federation of Nigeria (PPFN), Rt. Hon. Kwamoti B. Laori, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to expanding access to quality sexual and reproductive health services across Nigeria. He made this known while addressing journalists in Abuja after presiding over the Federation’s 58th National Council Meeting on Tuesday, September 2, 2025.

Speaking at the Sandralia Hotel, venue of the meeting, Rt. Hon. Laori noted that the Council — which brought together delegates from all six geopolitical zones — had deliberated on critical issues of policy, governance, and sustainability. “This Council remains the highest policy-making body of our Federation, and its role in shaping our future cannot be overemphasized,” he said.

He disclosed that the Council reviewed and approved statutory documents, including the 2024 Annual Report, Audited Financial Statements, the 2026 Business Plan, and the Strategic Plan 2025–2030, which, according to him, will guide PPFN’s work in the years ahead. “Our new strategic direction is anchored on four pillars: People-Centred Care, Moving the Sexuality Agenda, Solidarity for Change, and Nurturing our Federation. These pillars reflect our renewed focus on service, advocacy, and sustainability,” Laori explained.

A major highlight of the meeting, he told journalists, was the unanimous confirmation of Mrs. Harriet Chidiebere Okoro as the substantive National Treasurer. “This confirmation strengthens our leadership team and enhances our governance structure at a critical moment in the life of our Federation,” he said.

The PPFN President also shared resolutions taken during the meeting, which covered a broad range of issues. These included land protection for state associations, updates on ongoing infrastructure projects such as the South-South Regional Office, and strengthening of the Youth Action Movement (YAM) through comprehensive capacity-building. “Our young people are the backbone of our future. Equipping them with the right skills in advocacy, grant writing, and reporting is non-negotiable if we must sustain our impact,” he stressed.

He further highlighted PPFN’s commitment to partnerships, citing collaboration with the National Council of Women Societies (NCWS) on childcare and community support services. He added that the Council had approved measures to strengthen accountability, including improved circulation of statutory documents and continued engagement of professional auditors.

Tributes were paid during the meeting to deceased staff and volunteers, with a minute of silence observed in their honor. The Council also celebrated the appointment of Mr. Abiodun Ajayi, NEC Member from the South West, into the IPPF Africa Regional Team for the Eswatini Accreditation Exercise.

Addressing the press, Rt. Hon. Laori emphasized that the Council had demonstrated unity and shared vision following the leadership transition in December 2024. “This Council has shown once again that when we come together, we are stronger. The unity, innovation, and passion displayed here will drive us to expand access to quality sexual and reproductive health services, leaving no community behind,” he told journalists.

He concluded by thanking volunteers, delegates, and staff for their commitment. “We are building on the sacrifices of our volunteers and the dedication of our staff. *Rep. Kwamoti B. Laori Urges LGAs & NGOs to Unite for Stronger Population Programs*

 

Ado-Ekiti — Rt. Hon. Kwamoti Bitrus Laori, Member of the House of Representatives and National President of the Planned Parenthood Federation of Nigeria (PPFN), delivered the lead paper at a seminar organized by the Ekiti State Bureau of Statistics on Thursday, 14th August 2025.

Speaking on “Fostering a Closer Relationship Between LGAs and NGOs in Population Program Implementation in Nigeria”, Laori stressed that with Nigeria’s population exceeding 220 million, urgent collaboration between Local Government Areas (LGAs) and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) is key to advancing reproductive health, family planning, gender equity, and youth empowerment.

He highlighted PPFN’s successful partnerships in states like Kaduna, Cross River, and Ogun—where joint outreach, capacity building, and community engagement have improved health outcomes and reduced teenage pregnancy.

Calling for institutionalized partnerships, joint planning, shared data systems, and stronger community advocacy, Laori urged traditional rulers, religious leaders, youth and women groups, and NGOs to work hand-in-hand with LGAs.

 “The future of Nigeria’s population health depends on our ability to collaborate, innovate, and lead together,” he declared. 

The seminar was declared open by the Ekiti State Governor represented by his Deputy HE Chief (Mrs) Monisade Christianah Afuye. Other dignatories in attendance includes members of Ekiti State Executive Council, Chairmen of LGAs, Traditional Rulers, Religious Leaders and host of NGOs and population stakeholders in the state.
