*Rt. Hon. Kwamoti B. Laori Advocates Stronger Host Community Partnerships for Pipeline Security*

The Chairman, House Committee on Public Petitions, Kwamoti Bitrus Laori, addressed participants at the Joint House of Representatives Committees on Host Communities and Public Petitions Legislative Roundtable held in Owerri, Imo State.

The roundtable, themed “Strengthening Pipeline Surveillance Through Host Communities’ Partnership, Accountability and Sustainable Development Under the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) 2021,” brought together community youths, traditional rulers, industry stakeholders, and representatives of International Oil Companies (IOCs).

In his remarks, Rt. Hon. Kwamoti emphasized the critical role of collaboration, accountability, and mutual trust in creating a peaceful and business-friendly environment that benefits host communities, investors, and the nation at large.

He further highlighted the importance of community partnership in safeguarding critical oil and gas infrastructure, noting that effective pipeline security can only be achieved through inclusive engagement and strict adherence to the provisions of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) 2021.

In the spirit of Eid al-Adha and as part of his enduring commitment to the welfare of his constituents, Rt. Hon. Kwamoti Bitrus Laori extended food support to the Muslim Ummah across Demsa, Numan, and Lamurde Federal Constituency of Adamawa State.

The outreach featured the distribution of essential food items, including bags of rice, beans, millet, and cooking oil, aimed at supporting Muslim families during the festive season.

Reps Minority Leader, Chinda Emerges APC Rivers Governorship Candidate for 2027 Poll

 The Minority Leader, of the House of Representatives , Hon. Kingsley Chinda has emerged as governorship candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress for Rivers State gubernatorial election in 2027.

Chairman of the party’s governorship primary election committee and returning officer, Hon. Bitrus Kwamoti, announced the result in Port Harcourt on Thursday.

Kwamoti made the announcement at the APC Secretariat in Port Harcourt after receiving the results of the primaries from collation officers in the 23 local government areas of the state.

He stated,” I, Kwamoti Bitrus, Chairman of the Governorship Primary Election Committee, here have been certified that I am the Returning Officer for the Rivers State Governorship Primary Election held on this day, 21st day of May, 2026.

The name of the aspirant, which is the sole aspirant, is Chinda Ogundu Kingsley. He scored the total number of votes, 268, 497.

“Ogundu Kinsley, having satisfied the requirements of the APC constitution and guidelines and scored the highest number of votes, is hereby declared the winner of the primary election and is, in return, elected as the party’s governorship candidate for Rivers State.”

The Rivers APC primary had attracted attention amid the lingering political crisis in the state and the influence of allies of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, within the party structure.

The incumbent Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara who had earlier purchased the APC governorship expression of interest and nomination forms announced his withdrawal from 2027 governorship race few hours before the the party’s gubernatorial primary election.

*Public Petitions Committee Under Kwamoti Bitrus Laori’s Leadership Presents 7 Report*

The House of Representatives, at its plenary session on Tuesday, received seven reports from its Committee on Public Petitions, chaired by Kwamoti Bitrus Laori.

Presenting the reports, the Chairman noted that they were referred to the Committee by the House at different times and that thorough investigations were conducted with full stakeholder engagement.

The reports, presented on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, include:

A petition by Commit Technology and Consult Ltd against the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Ltd, alleging fraudulent conduct, misrepresentation, and breach of a joint venture agreement in project implementation. The matter was referred to the Committee on August 27, 2025.

A petition by Barahatihi Nig. Enterprises Ltd against Fleet Street Investment Ltd on alleged criminal breach of trust involving ₦3.8 billion, referred on August 7, 2023.

A petition by Nsisan-Obari Royal Palace Alesa Council of Chiefs against Indorama Eleme Petrochemicals Ltd over alleged violations of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) 2022, referred on April 27, 2024.

A petition by City-Point Global Properties and Investment Ltd against the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria concerning the alleged non-release and disbursement of ₦479,187,955.20 for the development of 160 housing units along Bende Road, Umuahia North Local Government Area of Abia State. This petition was referred on September 3, 2024.

The Committee Chairman urged the House to receive and adopt the reports to enable immediate implementation of the recommendations by the relevant agencies.

In his ruling, the Deputy Speaker, Benjamin Kalu, who presided over the plenary, commended the Committee for its diligence and directed that the reports be laid for further legislative consideration.

*Adamawa South Stakeholders Present APC Nomination Form to Rep. Kwamoti Laori*

 

Leaders and stakeholders from the nine Local Government Areas of Adamawa Southern Senatorial District have presented the All Progressives Congress (APC) nomination and expression of interest form to Rt. Hon. Kwamoti Bitrus Laori, urging him to contest the 2027 senatorial election.

The presentation followed a large solidarity rally held on Thursday, April 30, 2026, at Pwanobato Event Hall in Numan. The gathering brought together representatives from Demsa, Ganye, Guyuk, Jada, Lamurde, Mayo-Belwa, Numan, Shelleng, and Toungo LGAs, who unanimously called on the lawmaker to represent the district at the Senate.

Demonstrating their commitment, the group procured the APC nomination and interest form valued at ₦20 million and formally presented it to Rt. Hon. Laori on May 2, 2026, in Numan.

Speaking on behalf of the group, Alhaji Ali Gurama urged the seasoned legislator to accept the call, citing his track record of service over the past 16 years in both the State House of Assembly and the House of Representatives.

In his response, Rt. Hon. Laori expressed deep appreciation for the show of confidence and solidarity and formally accepted the nomination to contest the senatorial seat.

He urged the stakeholders to intensify their efforts to ensure their support translates into victory, emphasizing the need to mobilize party members across the district to rally behind his candidacy. He cautioned that failure to build consensus could weaken their chances at the party primaries.

Rt. Hon. Laori further assured that any aspirant who chooses to step down in support of his ambition would not regret the decision, while reiterating his commitment to an inclusive campaign and people-oriented representation.

He pledged to continue operating in line with the collective will of the people and promised not to disappoint if elected.

The nomination and expression of interest forms were formally presented by Alhaji Ali Gurama on behalf of the stakeholders’ group.
